2007
Hampshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (UK) was delighted to send a decommissioned patient transport ambulance to Mkula Hospital near Mwanza in north-eastern Tanzania. The vehicle was handed over to CODRA at Southampton Ambulance Station in Hampshire, England by Garry
Garry stated, “ I am very pleased that this older vehicle was able to be donated to a such needed cause, thereby providing a contribution for transporting patients in Tanzania” He also praised his Fleet Team for preparing this vehicle for its future role for the CODRA project.
Project workers from CODRA (UK) recently visited the hospital to discuss the need for an ambulance and other medical supplies.
It will also be used as a mobile clinic and training centre to go out to the really remote villages. There is currently a great need for the training of traditional birthing attendants in order to avoid women being permanently damaged during difficult births, which can result in incontinence and then social ostracising. Then of course there is the continuing education about HIV/AIDS.
This is a stunning part of the world, between the Serengeti Plain to the east and Lake Victoria to the west, two places in Africa that most people have heard of! We are so grateful to Hampshire Ambulance Service for this donation; it will literally make the difference between life and death for many of the poorest people in the world.”
