CODRA, working with the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany in Tanzania ran a week long Good Governance workshop which involved grassroots and elected leaders from the Lake Zone.
The workshop dealt with democracy, vertical and horizontal accountability, corruption and responsibilities of elected leaders to their electorates.
The major result was to enhance participatory and democratic governance systems, which promotes gender equality and civil society through basic rights approach.
Forty-four political leaders from the Busega and Kivukoni divisions (comprised of 11 wards) were taken to Dodoma for four days, to attend parliamentary sessions and meet with various representatives. While attending the morning parliament sessions they were able to experience first hand the formal democratic process of debate and exchange.
